In today’s audio postcard, I’m talking about how to survive the holidays (or any stressful event that may be on the horizon).
Once you've had a chance to listen, I have a couple questions for you. Do you already have a self care practice in place? If you do, what's the one thing you want to make sure to maintain throughout this crazy time to keep yourself taken care of?

As I’m sitting down to talk to you, it's the beginning of November and the holidays are coming. It seems like every year they creep up earlier and earlier, doesn’t it? As much as we want to have the perfect version of the holidays that we see in the movies, in reality it can be a stressful time.
I’ve found, the best thing we can do for ourselves is to plan ahead when it comes to self-care. So that we can do our best to take care of ourselves amid the hectic, busy, stressful energy that that the holidays bring.
By the way, this doesn't only apply for the holidays, this is also relevant if you've got a big project at work - maybe that big launch date is coming up and things are busier than normal. So this works any time things get a little hairy and you’re feeling extra stressed.
So today I’m talking about taking care of yourself when stress is high and life gets busy. Because these are the times when it’s easy to say, “Oh I don't have time for that! I don't have time to get myself to the gym, or take that nap I desperately need, or sit and relax at the end of the day. There's just too much going on!”
But these are the moments when taking time for yourself is the most important, the most essential.
If you already have a regular self-care practice
Hooray and a high-five to you! This is fantastic! But this is also a dangerous time - falling off the self-care wagon when shit gets crazy is an easy thing to do.
This is the time to double-down and stick with it. Staying committed to your self-care habits during the holidays (and other stressful times) is essential. So, do what you need to do. Find a buddy, a partner, a self-care bestie. Encourage each other through this crazy stressful time and help each other stick with the awesome self-care habits that you already have in place.
But what if you don't have a self-care routine?
This is a great time to start! Because you need self-care the most when life gets crazy. And the holidays do get craaaazy!
But beware, you don’t want to add overwhelm to the overwhelm. So this is not the time to start a complicated, multi-pronged, self-care routine. (Save that for when things are calmer and you have the time and energy to focus on it). But right now is the perfect time to give yourself the gift of self-care.
Pick one simple thing to get yourself started. Something that you can do for yourself every day, every week. Make it easy. Make it fun.
Here are a few ideas to get you going…
- Spending time outside (my personal favorite)
- Move your body - yoga, taking a walk, going for a bike ride, dance
- Take a nap - give yourself extra rest when you need it
- Breathe - this is an easy one to forget but oh so important
